Countries Twister
Use an opaque or overhead projector to project a map of the countries that speak your target language onto a cheap, light-colored shower curtain liner (dollar stores often have these). Play Twister using commands and the countries (Like, "Put your right hand on Spain."). You can also do this with major cities and/or features within a particular country. The Countries Song
Ok. I LOVE the Sing Dance Laugh and Eat Tacos series by frog press (http://www.singdancelaugh.com/) and liked the IDEAS of the countries being sung to the tune of "La Cucaracha" as is done on Sing Dance Laugh and Eat Tacos 2 --Click here to hear a sample from the song (mp3 format)--, but the problem with it was that the countries weren't in any particular order, and I wanted something to not only help my kids learn the names of the countries, but where they were! So, I came up with an order that takes students on a map from Mexico straight southward through Central America until they hit South America, then starts with Venezuela in the northern part of South America, goes down the western coat, then back up into Argentina, catches Uruguay, Paraguay, and Bolivia, then skips to the Carribean and then across the ocean to Spain. I just like it better, and it makes it easier for the kids to follow along in their world maps. When I traveled to their classes, I had them use the world map in the front of their Social Studies books, but now I have world map placemats in Spanish that they can use, instead, thanks to Wal-Mart! The link takes you to the same map set as used in the above country-locating activity, but has the words to the song on it, instead, as well as the path through the map marked on it that I follow in the song. Frog Press now has an instrumental CD available for "Tacos 2" that you can buy so you can use their instrumentation and my version of the lyrics, if you'd like! You can play along on a guitar with only the chords C and G, if you are a beginning guitarist like me... Creator: Melissa MB Wilkins Resources and Links: |

Look up statistics, like populations, for countries that speak your target language. Report them to the class, placing them in the correct high to low order (orlow to high). Idea source: unknown | ||
